We had from 8.30am (first lift on Rastkogelbahn) until noon (back at hotel). It was gloriously sunny, clear, cool and until 11am, quite deserted. The pistes were mostly soft, but little off-piste was worth exploring as it was rather bullet-proof and littered with hard balls of ice. So we toured (pics here), attempting to ski some of the areas we missed on Monday when the wind closed lifts.
From Rastkogel, we headed over to Horberg and down to Finkenberg, and home via Eggalm. The black piste off the Schneekar chair was great fun, with a consistent fall line and softening snow. And the red groomers down to mid-station on the Finkenberg side were perfect spring skiing.
It was all pretty fast stuff. But it gave an appreciation for how good the terrain could be with powdery snow and a deeper base. Some of the off-piste options off the peak at Horberg looked especially tempting. Maybe one day we might get to experience it.
Maybe. But next, there’s Ischgl to indulge in … this Austrian skiing is tough work :-}
